Born in Clark Fork, Cooper County, Missouri, George and a friend traveled by horseback to California in 1860. George returned to Clark Fork a few years later and started a family. He ventured out to Colorado in 1872 and was involved in livestock trading. He was an entrepreneur, city official including Street Commissioner of Aspen, CO., and started several successful businesses along with his livestock enterprise.
