WASHINGTON -- George Edward "Jiggs" Griffin, 80, of 201 Bess St., Sunnyland, died at 10:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born Dec. 16, 1918, in Lacon [Bloomington?] to Samuel and Eva Fuson Griffin, he married Dorothy Smith on Nov. 24, 1945, in Lacon. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary of Springfield and Larry of Washington; one sister, Mrs. Malcolm (Marge) Lewis of Brooker, Fla.; and two granddaughters. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a sergeant in the medical corps.

He retired in 1980 as an inspector at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, where he worked for 31 years.

Since 1955, he was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. James Swaner will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mason-White Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville.

Memorials may be made to his church or the American Cancer Society.
