Mattie was a homemaker and a seamstress. She sewed many beautiful quilts. Her granddaughter Janet Lou Wolf Grummitt (living 2024) has one her quilts and tatted pillow cases. She made most of her daughters clothes when they were in school plus she tatted, made lace, gardened, cooked, canned, belonged to a ladies group and attended church. She had three children, two were born in KY. and one in IL. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Mason City, Il.

Mrs. Mattie Lou Elmore, former Green County resident, died October 25, (1945) at her home in Mason City, Ill., after a long illness. She was the wife of Albert H. Elmore. The daughter of the late Peter D. and Rebecca Cantrell, Mrs. Elmore was born February 17, 1880, in Green County and lived here until after her marriage. She was married in 1896 and 10 years later moved to Illinois. In another four months she would have celebrated her golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Elmore is survived by her husband; three children, Mrs. Flora Lee Elmore, Mrs. Alberta Wolf, and Peter David Elmore. all of Illinois; one brother, Robert L. Cantrell, Green County, three sisters, Mrs. Lee Noe, Mrs. Hattie Scott and Mrs. Ida Scott, all of Green County, and seven grandchildren.
