George went to College in Cedar Falls, Iowa then to the Highland Park College of Pharmacy, lacked one term of becoming a doctor but got his Registered Pharmacy Certificate, going to Collins, Iowa where he worked in a drug store.

From there to Tama, Iowa working for Fred Solomon in the store. From there he bought stores in Zearing, Iowa then in State Center, Iowa and then in McCallsburg, Iowa. His store burned November 12, 1925. He then opened a small business in a business room in the hotel. Nora was a self taught seamstress and was sewing for the family and nearly everyone in McCallsburg. She later on opened a hamburger shop and George moved his drugstore in with her.

They outgrew that building and bought a vacant bank building where they operated a cafe and drug store until retirement in 1947. They moved to Des Moines, in their new home. On the day of George's funeral he received his Golden Certificate for being registered pharmacist for 50 years.
