Joe A. Shaffer, 61, of Mountain City, born Feb. 18, 1947, in Wichita Falls to parents Joe Frank Shaffer and Dorothy Mansell Davis, passed away Nov. 11, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. Joe formerly lived in Big Spring, Plano, Garland and San Antonio. Joe graduated Edison High School in San Antonio in 1965. Joe served in the US Air Force. He worked in the automotive field with Volkswagen, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America and most recently with Gulf States Toyota. Joe loved racing and was a driver and owner who participated at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle and at San Antonio Speedway. Joe was preceded in death by his Father, Joe Frank Shaffer of San Antonio and his son Curtis Reece Shaffer of San Marcos. Joe is survived by his wife, Jennifer Shaffer of Mountain City, his Mother, Dorothy Davis of Wichita Falls, his brothers: Darell Shaffer, Roger Shaffer, Mike Mitchell, Danny Vauble; his sister Joyce Stevens; his daughter, Christy Shaffer of Camarillo, Calif. and his grand-daughters, Casandra and Sarah Shaffer of Bend, Ore. Services will be Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home located near FM 2770 and Kohlers Crossing in Kyle, 268-8200). Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. Interment will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery on Hwy 80 near Martindale immediately following the services.
