Stanley Thomas
Died Last Sunday at Old Age-Was One of the Oldest and
Prominent Citizens of County

Trigg County was called upon Sunday morning to give up one of its oldest and most prominent highly respected citizens in the person of Mr. Stanley Thomas. He answered the summons of the angel early Sunday morning at his home about five miles southwest of here.

Mr. Thomas was the son of Starkie and Polly Bridges Thomas, who moved to this county from North Carolina in 1806. He was born February 8, 1828 and died on his eighty-sixth birthday. In 1849, he was united in marriage with Emily J. Light, and to this union was born eleven children, six of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Adaline Baker, Messrs. W.H. and Wesley G. Thomas of this county, Mrs. George Wilkins of Louisville, and Stanley Thomas of Madisonville. He is also survived by his wife, who is now almost eighty-three years of age, and who has been his constant companion and helpmate for almost sixty-five years, seventy-one grandchildren, seventy-two great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

It has been our great pleasure to know Mr. Thomas, since we knew anyone, having lived for several years within a half-mile of his home, and can truthfully say he is one of the very best neighbors, and one of the most lovable men we ever knew. We have been proud to number him among our very best friends. His family, neighbors, and this county have lost a most devoted friend and citizen, and the splendid life he has lived and many acts of kindness he has done will live for many years to come.

His remains were laid to rest Monday morning in the old family burying ground, not far from his home, in the presence of a large crowd, sorrowing relatives and friends. All of his children were present at the time of his death.

Obituary from The Cadiz Record, February 12, 1914.

(Note--Gilbert Bridges' History of the Thomas and Bridges Families states that Stanley Thomas mustered for Confederate Service in a company commanded by Captain Alfred C. Thomas)
