Loraine Winters
Jerseyville -- Loraine Hazel Winters, 91, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 8, 1998, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 16, 1906, in Carrollton, she was the daughter of the late John and Pearl (Black) Adcock.
She married Harold Winters Feb. 19, 1927, at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. He died May 9, 1985.
During World War II she worked at International Shoe Factory in Mexico, Mo., Hannibal, Mo., Union, Mo. and Jerseyville until its closing. After the war, she and her husband owned and operated Winters Market in Chesterfield until selling in 1971. The continued to live in Chesterfield working on their farm until moving to Carrollton in 1983. She was a member of the Believers Baptist Church in Carrollton and the Order of the Easter Star.
Survivinig are a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Joe Perdun of Jerseyville; a son, John Winters of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Gary and Rhonda Prrdun, Larry and Pam Perdun, Tammy and John Pfeifer, all of Jerseyville, Barry and Melissa Winters, Julie and Jamie Ballentyne, all of Mesa, Ariz., and Teri Winters of Phoenix; five great-grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Perdun, Becky Pfeifer, Keven and Alexander Ballentyne; a brother, Lawrence Adcock of Carrrollton, and three sisters, Opal King, Mary Baker and Dorothy Custer, all of Carrollton.
She is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Ginger Perdun; three sisters, Iva Laird, Alma Miller and Margaret Louise Adcock in infancy; and three brothers, Henry, Donald and Franklin Adcock.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Clyde Myers officiating.
She will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the West Pines Retirement Village in Jerseyville, where she had been a resident for several years.
