Photo: Albert (1858 Coles Co Illinois - 1941, Butte Co CA) and Robert (1860 Utah Territory, now Nevada – 1941, Durham CA) Coon of Durham, California. Photographer: Oliver Moll, Durham, California, n.d. Coon family historian Carolyn (Hackett) Dowd notes that the brothers never married and lived their entire lives together. When Albert died, Robert pined away and died within weeks of Albert's death. Two weeks after Robert's death, Albert and Robert's dog died. The house they lived in was located on the north side of the road, just west of the Dayton 4-Corners. It burned shortly after their deaths. Adele (Coon) Hackett recalled that her mother Grace (Jamerson) Coon had gone to the house to try to salvage items, but was unable to do so. Albert and Robert Coon's mother, Susannah (McCord), died en route to California, and was buried along the trail at Little Antelope Springs near Scossa camp in Pershing County, Nevada. The boys were reared by their aunt Sarah (McCord) Freeland Coon after she married their father Isaac. (Larry V. Richardson and Special Collections Dept., Meriam Library, CSU, Chico.)
