Chico Enterprise, Thursday, January 21, 1941: "Widely Known Dayton Pioneer Taken by Death. Funeral services for Albert William Coon, 82, pioneer Dayton district rancher who died in a local hospital late yesterday, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Nugent funeral home. The Rev. Errol B. Sloan of the Christian church will officiate, and members of the Durham I.O.O.F. lodge, of which the deceased was a member, will conduct graveside rites in the Dayton cemetery. Coon, a native of Coles county, Ill., came to the Dayton district with his parents in a wagon train. His mother died en route, and is buried on the Emigrant trail in central Nevada. His father arrived in Dayton December 15, 1860, and acquired rights to the property which later became the Coon ranch, which has been operated since then by the deceased and his brother, Robert Coon. They were successful ranchers and did much to build up this territory. Coon became a member of the Dayton I.O.O.F. lodge 60 years ago and later transferred to Durham when that community took over the Dayton organization. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Martha E. Lewis, and a brther [sic], Robert M. Coon, both of Dayton, and several nieces and nephews."

Chico Enterprise, Friday, January 22, 1941: "Rites Held for Albert W. Coon. With a host of friends in attendance and with profuse floral offerings banked around the casket, funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Nugent funeral service for Albert William Coon, pioneer resident of Dayton, who died late Wednesday in a local hospital. The Rev. Errol Sloan, pastor of the Christian church officiated and Mrs. Sloan sang 'Rock of Ages.' Following the services in the chapel graveside rites were conducted by the Durham Odd Fellow Lodge. Pallbearers were J.R. Henderson, H.L. Sohnery, James Weldin, D.E. Baker, David Frick and C.A. Schab."

Coon Descendants, by Frances Davis McTeer, 1979, (pg. 172-173): "The 1870 census of Chico Twp., Butte Co., lists Isaac's widow Sarah Coon aged 40, born in Indiana; her household included ... Albert Coon aged 12, born in Illinois."
