Ruby Lee Anders died Nov. 5, 2008, in a Mineral Wells hospital.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Mt. Hermon First Baptist Church with burial in the Pollard Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Point, Texas, to Lewis Werts and Ardina Smith Werts. She was the eighth of nine children born to the Werts. She matriculated through the Richland school system, where she was very active in sports, music and the Richland A.M.E. Church.
During her school years, she met Frank Anders Jr. whom she later married in 1935. To this union, five children were born. The Anders, seeking to better their lives, left Point, Texas, and headed west for California. However, they made a stop in Mineral Wells, Texas, where they found employment at the Baker Hotel. They then decided to reside in Mineral Wells where they affiliated themselves with the local community. Ruby later began working at the home of Howard and Ruth Stoker, where she remained for 35 years, until she became unable to work.
Ruby united with Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church in 1946 and remained a faithful member, serving in many capacities including as the choir president, a stewardess and a missionary. She was also very active in her community, serving as a board member of the Dunbar Neighborhood Council, a member of the Heroines of Jericho, King Solomon Court No. 124, and a member of the T.G. Givens Assembly No. 352.
She is survived by her sister, Flora Greer of Los Angeles; her son, Lavon Anders; daughters, Ruby Greer and son-in-law, Matt, and Carol Jefferson and son-in-law Robert, all of Mineral Wells; 10 grandchildren, Opal Johnson and husband Steve, Bruce Anders, Nathaniel Anders and wife, Allison, Levester Anders Jr. and wife, Sarah, Sharon Anders, Danita Anders, Ardina Washington and husband, Mark, Matt Greer Jr. and fiancé, Melinda, Earl Jefferson, and Angela Johnson and husband, Neal; granddaughter-in-law, Mary Anders; over 30 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
