Melissa Shortt "Mel" Harr, 39, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 10, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.
Melissa was very active in rescuing animals. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. She was also a loving and caring mother to many others and a marvelous daughter-in-law.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Creed and Dorothy Shortt; grandparents, Paul and Polly Sands, Arthur and Lucy Shortt; and an uncle, Charles "Bue" Sands.
Surviving are her husband, Scott Harr, of Kingsport; two daughters, Nichole Harr and Lauren Williams, both of Kingsport; two sisters, Jackie Wood and husband, David, of Church Hill, Betty Miller and husband, Don, of Honaker, Virginia; three brothers, Paul Shortt and fiancée, Barbara Lester, of Jonesborough, Roy Shortt and wife, Paula, of Rogersville, Rick Shortt, of Kingsport; brothers-in-law, Tim Harr and wife, Laura, of Kingsport, Randy Harr and wife, Lisa, of Kingsport; her mother-in-law, Carolyn Harr, of Kingsport; father-in-law, Pappy Harr, of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and very special friends, Dale "Moose" Moses and wife, Glenda, Christy and Sarah.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Lawrence E. Wolfe officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Harr, Tim Harr, David Harr, Randy Harr, John Tolbert, Rick Shortt, Roy Shortt and Dale Moses. Honorary pallbearer will be Paul Shortt.
