Mrs. Velma Opal Armes, 80, 1306 W. Walnut St., Washington, died at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center at 4:18 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gill Chapel with the Rev. R.P. Hawkins officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was born April 3, 1912 in Daviess County to William H. and Ada Belle Leonard Wilson. She married Glen Armes Aug. 15, 1929 and he died March 31, 1989. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. She attended Washington Schools.

Surviving are five daughters and one son, Mrs. David (Doris) Seat, Centerville, Iowa, Marilyn Gregory, Mrs. Tom (Peggy) Aldridge, Mrs. Don (Jackie) Smith, and Richard Armes, all of Washington, and Mrs. Wayne (Nancy) Wright, Huxley, Iowa, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Bertha Alice Medenwald, Indianapolis, Mrs. Genevieve Margaret Fields, and Paul Chester and Harold Eugene Wilson, all of Washington. One grandson and one brother are deceased.
