Elizabeth (Lizzie) Van Ginkel was born in Holland and her mother died when she was just 3 weeks old. She was then cared for in the home of her father's brother Albert Van Ginkel. After her aunt's death she and her uncle decided to go to America with Mr. and Mrs. Bauman. Mrs. Bauman was sent ahead to New York as she was pregnant. Sometime after her arrival in New York she took very sick and was taken to a hospital in New York where her daughter Katrina was born. She remained in the hospital working for her Dr. bills and hospital care.

About a year after they were in America Mr. Bauman died from tuberculosis. After sometime Grandma's (Elizabeth) Uncle Albert Van Ginkel and Mrs. Bauman were married. Then her daughter Katrina and Grandma (Elizabeth) grew up as sisters. There were also two sons, Albert and Henry, and two girls born to this union.
