Edward Lee Wood, Sr. was born under the name of James Edward Wood, but was more commonly known as Edward Lee Wood. Although originally recorded as James Edward Wood on a legal birth ceritificate, he was presumably called "Eddie" in the family since birth to avoid confusion at frequent family gatherings with his cousin, James Lauren Wood I ("Lauren"), born the previous year. Also, his birthdate was confused over time. Although he was born on May 16, 1920, he had always celebrated his birthday on May 15. These confusions could possibly have come about as a result of his stay in the Julia E Work Training School aka Brightside Orphanage in Plymouth, IN from January 01, 1930 through June 15, 1933. When applying for social security, no birth certificate for an Edward Lee Wood, Sr., born May 15, 1920, was in existence. With a signed affidavit from an aunt, a new birth certificate was made for him as Edward Lee Wood.
