Death of Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner

Mrs. Elizabeth Gardner died at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Fellows of West Point, Nov. 23rd, 1879, aged 86 years.

Her husband, Mr. John Gardner, died at the same place but a short time since, aged 89 years. They were natives of Stephentown, Rensselaer County, N.Y. and came to this neighborhood 23 years since. They lived together in married life some 56 years, and were blest with a family of 9 children, all of whom are now living at no great distance from here.

They both united with the M.E. Church more than forty years ago, and adorned their profession till called to the rewards of the faithful. They were warmly attached to the institutions of the church and sustained them to the extent of their ability, though not able to enjoy its ordinances as much as they desired.

His health and vigor of body and mind were remarkable till a short time before his death; but his last days were days of much suffering. He was graciously sustained to the last, and even rejoiced in view of his nearness to his heavenly home, where "there shall be no more pain."

She had longer feebleness of body, but quietly fell asleep in Jesus.

The community manifested great respect for their memory by a very large attendance upon their funeral services. Who will fill their places and follow them as they followed Christ?
