J. A. Crosby, Loraine Justice of Peace, Dies; Rites Today
Loraine, Aug. 13
Funeral for J. A. Crosby, 78, former justice of the peace and Mitchell County deputy sheriff, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Loraine Baptist Church.
He died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home here.
The Rev. Leonard Hartley will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Robert Harris. Burial will be in Loraine Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mr. Crosby had lived in Loraine for the past 24 years. He was born June 8, 1875 at (Milltown Sebastian Co., AR.)Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He had been in failing health for several months. He was serving as justice of the peace here until failing health caused him to retire.
Survivors include his wife, the former Pearl Gaither; two sons, J. S. Crosby of Eastland and O. B. Crosby of Monahans; four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Coffee of Lamesa, Mrs. Donnie Davis of Eastland, Mrs. Ruby Ash of Ranger and Mrs. Sadie Reece of Olden; two step daughters, Mrs. Laura Stewart of Colorado City and Mrs. Leila Beaty of Loraine.
