Mrs. Casey was born Dec. 31, 1908, in Marion, Ind., to Edward Hezakiah Burden Jr. and Estella Mae Wallace Burden. She was the third of 10 children. She attended D.A. Payne, a one-room school that taught kindergarten through 12th grade. At age 15, when her mother passed, she remained at home to care for her siblings. After her father remarried, she worked as a governess for a private family. Mrs. Casey married Herbert F. Casey in 1928 and gave birth to six children. In 1938 the family moved to Idlewild, Mich., where they built a dairy farm business. In 1946, the family returned to Marion. Mrs. Casey supplemented the family income by doing day work in private homes until becoming employed at the local radio factory. In 1955 the family came to Alaska, where Mrs. Casey helped provide cleaning and building maintenance for the 4th Avenue Theatre, assisted with managing an apartment house and was a homemaker for the family. She retired and moved to southern California in 1979, where she remained until moving to her daughter's home in Portland, Ore., in January 1996. Mrs. Casey was a member of the Methodist Church and sang in the choir when she was able. While residing in Idlewild, she served on the Idlewild School Board and founded the Annual Deer Hunter's Ball. As a resident of Anchorage, she served in the Eastern Star and the Federated Womens League.

Mrs. Casey is survived by her children, C. Denise Nukes of Tualatin, Victor H. Casey Sr. of Marion, Vincent H. Casey of Anchorage, Marilyn C. Casey of Banning, Calif., and Gerald D.
