Oren Valentine Lanier, 85, of Savannah, Georgia, died Thursday, January 10, 2002, at Candler Hospital. He was born in Bulloch County, Georgia, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army from May 1939 until June 1945. He was retired from Braun Construction Company, and he was a member of the 8th Infantry Regiment of Ft. Screven, Georgia; a member of the Carpenters Local Union #256 for over 50 years; and a member of Wesley Oaks United Methodist Church where he had formerly served on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna Blocker Lanier of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Connie Lanier of Savannah and Gary and Betty Lanier of Pembroke, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Floyd Reese of Savannah; one sister, Lorena Burnsed of Statesboro, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Billy Reese, Brian Reese, Katricia Reese, Ricky Shuman, Kimberly Grantham, Kerri Arendes, and Amber Lanier; six great-grandchildren: Luke Reese, Drew Shuman, Lily Reese, Hunter Grantham, Gabriana Grantham, and Austin Arendes; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 12, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Terry DeLoach and the Rev. Lynn Drake officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery.
Remembrances can be made to the American Lung Association.
