Jacob is the third child of thirteen born to Samuel and Mary Jane (Colbaugh) Burkett Jr..

On December 29, 1872 Jacob married Rebecca Caroline Hawthorne in Rose, Jefferson, Pennsylvania. to this union was born ten children:
Henry Wilson who sadly died at a little over two years old. Nov. 8, 1873- Jan. 17, 1876. ( I have made him a memorial , but if anyone can help with burial or more information please let me know)
Melissa Bertha -Feb. 17, 1876 - Nov. 3, 1945
George Wesley - Jan. 28,1878 - Mar. 23, 1897 ( I can not find a memorial for George, so I have made one for him)
Ida Mary - Apr. 18,1880- Sep. 27,1958
