"J.A. Hallock's Funeral Held Here Today"
John Addison Hallock was born March 21, 1835, in Champaign county, Ill. He removed to Iowa with his parents in 1850 where they settled in Audubon County. He was married in January, 1860, to Catherine E. Crane, at Exira, Iowa, and to this union nine children were born, of whom five survive. They are Charles L. Hallock of El Paso, Texas, George D. Hallock of Delta, Colo., Grace Hallock Pike of Spokane, Wash., J. Willis Hallock of Salida and Raymond I. Hallock of Salida.
Mr. Hallock was a school teacher, a farmer and an editor during his long and active life. He served one two year term in the Iowa legislature, 1877 to 1879. He came to Colorado in 1883 and he organized the first graded school in Salida in 1885. He served as principal for several
years.
Mr. Hallock gave up active service at the age of 82 years and had since resided with his son, Raymond I. Hallock of 638 G street.
He was not ill even to the last moments of his life, and he said almost with his last breath: "I am not sick, I have no pain; I have just lived too long."
Mrs. Hallock died in Salida in 1899. Besides his children Mr. Hallock is survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He died at 2 o'clock Friday morning.
Mrs. Pike, George D. Hallock and the other children were here for the funeral, excepting
Charles Hallock who could not come.
Services were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Stewart chapel and the Rev. Ora Orahood
officiated."
