James Edward "Ed" Scott was born on 23 August 1919, to John Reuben and Latta Austin Scott. He was born in Piggott, Clay County, Arkansas.

There were six siblings in his family: Earl Sylvester Scott his half brother, William Bearl Scott, Carl Cleveland "Clevie," Vernice Vakel Scott, Johnny Charles Scott and Wilma Mae Scott.

Ed married Addie Alline Hill on 6 September 1941 in New Madrid County, Missouri. There were three children born of their union. Reuben Eugene "Gene" Scott died on 26 November 2012 and two children are living.

Ed loved to go coon hunting as did his son Gene. They came by it honestly as Ed's father, Rube Scott loved to hear his hound dogs run at night.

Addied Alline Hill Scott died on 11 December 2013, and now rests next to her husband.
