Lattie Austin was born on 17 February 1899, in Benton County, Tennessee to Vondella Summers and Jack Austin. Her mother died and by 1910 she was living in Arkansas. It was there she met John Reuben Scott and married him on 13 March 1917 in Clay County, Arkansas.

There were six children born of this union, William Bearl, James Edward "Ed," Carl Cleveland "Clevie," Vernice Vakle(Cook,Trigg), Wilma Mae (Rickman, Ihrig) and a living son.

There was never a more loving, gentle person born in this world than Grandma. I was told that her hair was a beautiful alburn color, but when I knew her it was grey. Her eyes were a beautiful brown with a twinkle in them. In her latter years she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, but always had a jolly smile on her face even when she was in pain. Even though I do not inherit her genes I wish God had passed out a personality like hers to more of us.

John Reuben and Lattie Austin Scott are buried in front of the little brick building as you drive into the cemetery. I visit them each time I am in Missouri.
