Mrs. Della B. Hershey Dies In Warner Hospital
GETTYSBURG Mrs. Della B. Hershey, 83, of 220 Baltimore Street, founder and charter member of the Adams County Public Library and editor of the former weekly newspaper, York Springs Comet, died Sunday at 7 a.m. in the Annie M. Warner Hospital, Gettysburg. She was the wife of Quincy Wright Hershey, who died in 1952.
Mrs. Hershey was chairman of the Nixon for President campaign in Adams County. She represented Adams County as a delegate to the Republican National Convention a number of years ago.
She served as executive secretary for the League of Women Voters in Allegheny County for a number of years and was a member of Adams County Council of Republican Women.
Mrs. Hershey established UNICEF in Adams County.
She was a member of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church and wrote the pageant for its 200th anniversary celebration. She founded and directed the Presbyterian Players.
Mrs. Hershey was active in the 100th anniversary observance of the Battle of Gettysburg.
She was a house mother for SAE Fraternity, Gettysburg College, for six years before retiring in 1946.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Annie M. Warner Hospital and Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late James and Amy Winden Baird. She was a graduate of Rochester Business Institute.
Surviving are a son and daughter, Q. Baird Hershey, York Springs, and Mrs. Guillermo Barriga, Gettysburg; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. W. W. Cohen, Washington, D.C.; nieces and nephews.
Her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. MacAskill, will officiate at the funeral service Wednesday at 2 p. m. at Gettysburg Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Friends may call at the Monahan funeral home, Gettysburg, Tuesday evening.
