He is the fifth child and second son of Isaac MacDonald and Mary Eliza (Williams) Kolb born June 23, 1898, in Vernal, Utah.

He married Eliza Estella Chivers on June 10, 1918, in Vernal, Utah. There were six children born of this union: Muriel, Caroline, Farron, Barbara, Larain and Ted. Baby Caroline preceded him in death.

He served in the US Army during World War II.

He changed the spelling of his last name to "Cobb".
