Son of William (Billy) and Elizabeth Bloomer Wallen (Walling); Grandson of William I and Hannah Rice Wallen.

William and Nancy left Tennesse in the early 1850s and lived in Rockcastle Co., KY for a few years. William's mother, Elizabeth Bloomer Wallen, died there in 1860. In 1863 William's family, his father and his brother Daniel moved to Hendricks Co., Indiana. From there, the family went to Oklahoma and some of the children went to Kansas and Arizona. The part of the family that remained in Kentucky always spelled their name Wallen and those that went to Indiana spelled their name Walling.
