DON C. WIXOM DIES
Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon in the Second Ward Chapel for Don C. Wixom, 65, who died here Thursday, October 26, following a lingering illness of several years. He had been bed fast for one week following a stroke. Mr. Wixom was born in Fillmore, Sept. 14, 1870 and spent his early boyhood here. He also lived for short intervals at various other places in Utah and Idaho, returning to Fillmore before his marriage, which took place in the Manti Temple Oct. 13, 1898, when Ellen May Lambert became his wife. She preceded him in death by just eight months, having died January 31. The Wixom family lived at Scipio for about three years, when Mr. Wixom was manager of the creamery there, they returned to Fillmore in 1908?. Brother Wixom or Bishop Wixom, as he was called by most everyone, had always been active in church and community activities. He served as City Councilman one term and in numerous positions in the Church. He was for several years a member of the Second Ward Bishopric, three of which he was Bishop. Failing health prompted him to resign as head of the Second Ward in 1929. Bishop Wixom was a friendly man, he always had a kind word for everyone whom he met and was known to be very tolerant in his views, for although very religious himself, he did not hold others to the same views. He was dearly loved by his family, for he was always a kind and considerate husband and father. His daughters will feel the loss of their father keenly, as will also the Misses Annie and Emma Lambert, invalid sisters of Mrs. Wixom, who have made their home with the family for years. Speakers at the services were M. Claude Robins, Alonzo Huntsman, Wm. D. Melville and Pres. T. Clark Callister. A.J.T. Sorensen read a eulogy from the High Priests of which Mr. Wixom was a member. The opening prayer was pronounced by Ray Bishop of Delta and the closing prayer by A.J.T. Sorensen. The Ladies Chorus sang three songs, the first, "Though Deepening Trials Throng Your Way", the second, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" with Edw. Peterson singing the solo, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" with Edw. Peterson, Mrs. Hazel Trimble singing the duet. Mrs. Stella Day sang "Not Understood". Interment was in the Fillmore cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Franklin D. Wixom. Bishop Wixom is survived by seven daughters; Mrs. Lyla Terry of Holden, Mrs. Thelma Dutson of Oak City, Miss Wilma Wixom and Mrs. Blonda Knight of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Florice Sanford of Delta and Nellie and Eldula Wixom of Fillmore, also by nine grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters; J.W. Wixom and Mrs. Lois Shaffer of Logan; Franklin D. Wixom and Justin Wixom of Blackfoot, Idaho; Mahonri Wixom of Salt Lake City; Moroni A. Wixom of Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Nellie Dayley and Mrs. Elmeda Dayley of Burley, Idaho; Mrs. Dean McIntosh, Oakley, Idaho; Mrs. Molly Sims of California and Mrs. Ella Bailey of Shynook, Montana.
