Jacob Kytle was living in Caswell Co NC when he enlisted on 9 Oct 1777 in Capt. John Summer's and Armstrong's companies, Col. Thomas Clark's 1st North Carolina Regiment. He marched north and joined General Washington at Valley Forge, was in the Battle of Monmouth and at the storming of Stoney Point under General Wayne and in several skirmishes. He as detached and served under Colonels Washington and Long, was in the wagon service and was discharged in 1780, having served 3 years." He enlisted again, date unknown and served six weeks in Captain Guinn's company and was at the Battle of Guilford. He enlisted May 25, 1781, served as corporal and sergeant in Capt. Thomas Donoho's company, Colonel Henry Dixon's North Carolina Regiment, was in the Battle of Eutaw Springs, and was discharged May 25, 1782.
