Deceased Name: Duane Orlo Bartholomew
FILLMORE--Duane Orlo Bartholomew, age 75, devoted husband, respected father, beloved grandpa and dear friend, passed away August 13, 1996.

He was born January 21, 1921 in Fillmore to Orlo Verne and Zola Lyman Bartholomew. He married Rula Griffiths, June 2, 1943 in Ely, Nevada. Marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

He was a member of the LDS Church, holding various church callings. He served his country in World War II. He was proud to be an American. Member of the American Legion Post #61 and Fillmore City Lions Club. He served in the Fillmore City Fire Department for many years and was an honorary Life Time Member. Duane also was a member of the Utah Retail Grocery Association serving as a member of the Board of Directors. Also a member of the six County Commission and had served as a City Councilman for Fillmore. Duane along with his wife, Rula, are founders of Duane's Food Town, where he spent most of his time serving his customers, who he thought of as his dear friends. He received the Millard Economic Development Association Award for his outstanding development in Fillmore. He also received honorary membership in the Utah Food Industry Association and was chosen by his peers in the food industry for his accomplishments and dedication. Dad was a wonderful, warm and giving person. He dearly loved his wife, who worked by his side for 46 years. He loved to go to work in his store and was saddened when he no longer had the strength to go to work. He loved his children and great-grandchildren. Dad had a zest for life and his sense of humor and winning smile gladdened the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Duane is survived by his wife of 53 years; six children, Joyce (Lafe) Parrish, American Fork; Craig (Tammy), Fillmore; Jayne (Don) Knight, Delta; Randy (Arlene), Fillmore; Joan Carroll, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Julie (Dave) Johnson, Sutherland, Utah; 39 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beth Whatcott and Shirle (Scott) Stephenson, both of fillmore; brother, Carlyle (Glorie), Kearns. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Lyman; a son, Russell; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17, 1996 at 12 noon in the Fillmore 4th LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call Friday 7-9 p.m. at Olpin Mortuary, 55 West 200 So. in Fillmore and Saturday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the church located at 145 So. Main. Burial will take place in the Fillmore City Cemetery.
