-- Born, to the wife of Moses Bat-
row, on the 6th inst., a 12 lb girl.

St. Louis Vols. 1 & 2, Gervais, Brooks.
Compiled by Harriet Duncan Munnick.
St. Louis Vol II, pg 145
B-8 Josephine Denise Bertrand
July 27, 1890, I, the undersigned, baptized . . . Josephine Denise, born the 7th day of February, 1888 (sic), to Moses Bertrand and Felicite McKay. Sponsors were Mr. Morrell and his wife. . . .
Rev. G. A. Vermeersch

Since the newspaper item was published just a few days after the fact, it is most likely to be correct, with the possibility of an error of one day. The baptism was done some time after the birth, and there is a possibility of error either in the priest's recording or Munnick's transcription thereof. She used the 1890 birth year in later life (as appears on her Death Certificate and gravestone), but (on the other hand) the 1900 census indicates she was 12 years old at that time. She was quoted as stating that she was six months older than her husband Leo. I am going with the 1889 birth date.
