Walter Dale received a brief telegram Wednesday morning announcing the sudden and unexpected death at Chicago Tuesday evening of Mrs Eliza Rector Thorning, 80, at the home of her daughter and sole surviving child, Mrs Rovilla Simms. The cause of the death was not learned and a letter a few days ago from the daughter indicated that her mother was in general good health considering her advanced years although she slept much of the time.
Mrs Thorning was a native of Urbana, a daughter of Mr and Mrs NB Rector and a sister of the late Moses Rector, who died here a year a so ago. She was well known here for years when she served as an expert dressmaker. Following the death of her husband, she went to live with her daughter approximately 25 years ago.
