Charles arrived in Vietnam 28 February 1968 and was assigned to Hotel Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
The 1st Marine Division Complex on Hill 327 and 4 kilometers west of Danang was attacked
by hostile forces with mortars and small arms fire. Charles died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire. The Marines lost 28 Marines and 2 Corpsman during the attack.
Survived by his wife, Joyce A Craig and his parents, Charles Owen, Sr and Roberta L Craig, 3 brothers, Steven, Dale and Gary all of 712 North Street, Pontiac, Illinois.
