Herbert W. Masters, one of the leading citizens of Sadsburyville, and for many years connected with the Chester County Mutual Fire Insurance Company, which has its main offices in Coatesville, has severed his connection with that company and expects to locate at other business in Philadelphia shortly. Connected with the resignation of Mr. Masters from the insurance company came a story of financial as well as domestic difficulties, which are dispelled, by a talk over the telephone this morning with Mr. Masters himself, who laughingly denied such reports and stated that "there is simply nothing whatever in such a report and I stand ready to prove such assertions false." Mr. Masters is well remembered here, having at a recent public meeting of the Christian Science Church, with which body he is allied, introduced at the meeting held here the speaker of the evening, Paul S. Seeley. Mr. Masters married a daughter of former Clerk of Courts Elias Bair, of Sadsburyville, and has quite an acquaintance in this section by many who are glad to know the rumors afloat are untrue.

Mrs. Mary Masters, 45 years old, wife of Herbert W. Masters, died at the Chester County Hospital, West Chester, at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, as the result of burns sustained when a gas oven exploded in the kitchen of her home at Paoli, an hour and a half previous to her death.

Mrs. Masters was alone in the house when the accident occurred, hence no one knows the exact cause of the explosion. It is surmised, however, that she waited to long after turning on the gas before applying the light. This gave the oven an oportunity to fill with gas and when lighted it exploded.

The explosion was of such force that it blew the living room and dining room doors from their hinges, blew the kitchen window panes all over the house.

Enveloped in flames Mrs. Masters staggered to the living room window and called for help. When the neighbors reached her side all he clothing was burned from her body. Casper Tollinger, 19 years old, and Paul C Kirk were the first to respond to Mrs. Masters' screams for help. They wrapped a rug around her body, extinguishing the fire.

After carrying the woman to a place of safety, the two men fought the flames and held them in check until the arrival of the Paoli Fire Company. A stiff battle followed, the firemen finally succeeded in subduing the blaze. Considerable damage was done to the rooms on the first floor.

None of Paoli's doctors being at home, neighbors summoned a Malvern physician, who ordered Mrs. Masters removed to the hospital at West Chester. The severe pain rendered her unconscious and she remained so until her death.

The dead woman's two children, Herbert W. Jr., and Catherine, went immediately to the hospital, on being notified of the fatal mishap and arrived there a short time before she died. The son attended school at Westtown, while the daughter is a pupil of the Tredyffrin-Easttown High School at Berwyn.

Mrs. Masters' husband, who is employed as an adjuster by a Philadelphia Insurance Company, was on a business trip to the western part of the State. Word of his wife's tragic death reached him in Carlisle.

The tragic death of Mrs. Masters brought sorrow to many hearts in this city, where the Masters were so well known, and where her husband was in the insurance business for several years. Mrs. Masters as the daughter of the late Elias Bair, of Sadsburyville, a former Clerk of the Courts.
