Charlotte "Mammy" Carthel was born August 26, 1925 in Floyd County to Charles Steen and Beulah (Burgett) Steen. She married Cecil L. Carthel on May 12, 1942 in Portales, N.M. The couple was blessed with nearly 65 years of matrimony and two children, Charlie and Lavona.
Mammy was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She wrote stories, painted with oils, enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and she also loved to cook and was well known for her wedding cakes. She was a member of the West College & 3rd St. Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Cecil, in April of 2007.
She is survived by her son, Charlie Carthel and wife Barbara of Lockney; a daughter, Lavona Pitchford and husband Bill of Denton; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters, and many dear friends.
