Son of Rozzie and Addie Wilks

Mr. Van Lea Wilks was born September 3, 1929 in Henagar, Alabama. He was killed in action on September 4,1951 in Korea.
He was a private for the United States Army.

Private Wilks was a member of the 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 4, 1951. Private Wilks was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Suggested edit: Van Wilks 7ID, was the recipient of the Silver Star for his actions resulting in his death in Korean War. I did not see that among his medals listed. He is listed by www.koreanwar-educator.org. This order for the Silver Star was confirmed by Lynnita Brown, 111 E Houghton St, Tuscola, IL 61953. He is listed among those with orders but without a copy of the citation which was probably burned up in records fire of the 1970's. https://www.findagrave.com/user/profile/51397181
