Rufus J. Compton, 86 0f 1120 North Summit, was dead on arrival at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Burge-Protestant Hospital after a four-month illness.
A retired farmer and carpenter, Mr. Compton lived in Strafford most of his life and came here two years ago.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Cookson, Route 9; four sons, Bert, Route 4, George, Route 1, Harold, 1905 North Main, and James, Strafford; one brother, Claude, Billings;27 grandchildren; 17 g r e a t grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Klinger.
