John Rockwell was born in East Windsor, Conn, in 1743 and died in 1823 (aged 80). He married Abigail Buckingham. Their children were: John, Tilby, Uzal, Abigail, and Louisa.

He was a lieut. in the Rev. War in Conn
He served as a Captain in Gen. James Wadsworth's CT Troops.
He was in the 5th Connecticut Regiment, raised under the command of David Waterbury in 1775. The 5th participated in the Invasion of Canada, New York and New Jersey Campaign, and battles of Monmouth, Ridgefield, and Germantown in '77-'78.
