Walter was son of Phillip F. & Mary Catherine Ward. On June 7, 1914 he married Jane Lane in the Christian Church in Rosenberg, Texas.

The following obituary was taken from the Herald-Coaster newspaper of February 14, 1965:

Funeral services for Walter W. Ward, 75, president of Ft. Bend Federal Savings and Loan Association in Rosenberg were held Friday, February 12, at 3 p.m. from the Garmany & Company Chapel. Ray Green, pastor of First Christian Church officiated, was assisted by Rev. Dan Hubbell and Rev. Howard Pierce.

Mr. Ward passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon after being stricken at his residence.

He had been president of Ft. Bend Federal Savings & Loan Assn. since the firm was organized in 1933. He had lived in Fort Bend County all of his life, having been born in Guy in 1889.

Mr. Ward received his education in Tad Pole Elementary School, Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City, and Tyler Commercial College in Tyler.

Prior to his present position, he was in the farming and cattle business. He also served as deputy tax assessor and collector and as Tax Collector of Ft. Bend County. He established the
first serve-yourself grocery in Rosenberg.

Mr. Ward was a member of the First Christian Church, Rosenberg Masonic Lodge #881 AF & AMI.O.O.F., M.W.A., M.O.P. and was a charter member of the first Chamber of Commerce organized in Rosenberg.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jane B. Ward of Rosenberg, two daughters, Miss Mary Brooks Ward of Rosenberg and Mrs. R. J. Davis of Rosenberg; three sons, W. L. Ward of Baytown, Dr. W. W. Ward of San Antonio and Sid Ward of Rosenberg; three brothers Jesse Ward of Rosenberg, Ben Ward of Uvalde and Fred Ward of Needville; one sister, Mrs. Garner Hubbell of Rosenberg; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were his nephews, James B. Lane, Richard Lane, Lee Ward, Floyd Ward, Haman Ward, Tom Ward, Phillip Ward, George C. Lane, Jr., Milton Lane, L. D. Roberts and F. E. Hubbell. Honorary pallbearers were Directors of Fort Bend Federal Savings and Loan Association, R. J. Stepan, R. W. Lindsey, E. L. Odom, George Brady, Perry Mueller and G. B. Leaman, Carl Turicchi and Jarvis Rosenbaum were also honorary pallbearers.

Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.
