Darold Lee Ayers, 53, of 257 Lortz Dr. died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in his home following a sudden illness. Services: 9 a.m. Friday, Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, by the Rev. Nick Longworth. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk.

Surviving are two daughters, Dana Doocy of Marion and Darlene Norman of Britt; two sons, Jay Ayers of Long Island, N.Y., and Steve Walther of Cedar Rapids; his mother Nellie Ayers of Marion; three sisters; Geraldine Henderson and husband James of Marion, Darlene Eiler and husband Don of Marion and Delores Hobson and husband Jim of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Clifford Ayers and wife Cheryl of Cedar Rapids and Douglas Ayers and wife Dorrie of Fairfax; and three grandchildren, Brett, Destiny and Dakota. "Loving Uncle Shorty" was also survived by many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister Angeline Ayers.

He was born the son of Darold and Nellie Peyton Ayers on March 25, 1945, in Walker. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam era. Darold was the founder and sales manager of D & N Fence Co. in Cedar Rapids.

Memorials may be made in Darold's name to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
