John Turnquist was the husband of Christine Hyllengren Turnquist and son of Anders Peter Nilson Sand and Anna Cathrina Mork Sand. He emigrated from Sweden to America in June, 1883 and changed his name from Sand to Turnquist. He had six children: Inez, Irene, Myrtle, Monroe, Mildred and Lillian. He worked in the First Street Department Store as a salesman. John was also a musician, photographer and active in the Swedish Mission Church, later called Covenant Church.
