Son of David Skeels (1746-1833) and Lydia Powell (1754-1827), whom are buried here. He arrived in Highgate with his wife, parents and brothers, Amos and William in 1803-4. He was married to Martha Greene in 1804 in Highgate and they had 11 children, all born in Highgate. He was a blacksmith and manufactured edged tools. From Vermont History: "Three Puzzles of 1830," -When David Skeels jumped axes for anyone, the charge was a dollar a jump, but Conrad Saxe would jump them for fifty cents each. Both men had forges and it seems clear that jumping" was a technical name for some process relating to forging.
