Mrs. McDermott was a native of Unicoi County and the daughter of the late Wade R. and Bessie Boone Ambrose. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Southern Pottery.
She was a member of Fishery Community Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurmon McDermott in 1979: one brother, J.L. Ambrose, in 1997: and one sister June Ambrose Salts, in 1962.
Survivors include: two brothers, J.K. Ambrose, Erwin and Brown Ambrose, Unicoi: and one sister, Louise Allen
