Eliza Hampton was born in Ohio on Sept. 26, 1844 and died at Hynes, IA on Jan. 4, 1913 at 10:00 p.m. She came to Wapello Co. with her parents in 1840 and was united in marriage to Benjamin Cottrell on Dec. 31, 1858 in Wapello County, IA. He preceded her in death in 1883. Nine children were born to this union, five of whom survived her. At the age of sixteen she became a member of the Baptist Church at Chillicothe, IA and remained a faithful member till her death. Funeral services were held at her home at Hynes at 6 p.m. on the 6th and her remains were laid to rest by those of her husband in the Palmyra Cemetery.
