The funeral for Gordon E. Silber will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua, Iowa. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Gordon Edward Silber, 71, formerly of Nashua, died Sunday (Oct. 12, 2008) at his home in Wabasha, of leukemia.

He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Eagle Lake, Minn. In 1941, his family moved to a farm southeast of Ionia, Iowa. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1956, and on Aug. 23, 1958, married his high-school sweetheart, Sylvia Burnett, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua.

Mr. Silber farmed in the Nashua area; ran a feed store and fertilizer plant in Pocohontas, Iowa; and then managed fertilizer and chemical businesses in Burt and Garner, both in Iowa. In 1983, they moved to Little Falls, Minn., where they owned and operated a motel and "The Dairy Dream" restaurant. Mr. Silber also ran a meat locker in Granite Falls, Minn., at that time. He and his wife retired to Wabasha in 2000. Mr. Silber enjoyed woodworking, fishing trips, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Alan (Julie) of Rochester, Rex (Sue) and Chris (Lisa), both of Farmington, Minn., and Ben (Ashley) of Baldwin, Wis.; a daughter, Teresa Silber of St. Cloud, Minn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Isackson of Maine; and a brother, John (Dorothy) of Denver, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew; his parents, Emil and Sophie Silber; and a brother, Eitel.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
