Nathaniel Williams Ralls Military History
Nathaniel was a Sergeant in the 2nd Virginia Regiment commanded by Alexander Spottswood, Esp., later by Christian Febiger. He participated in engagements at Chesapeake Bay, Northern New Jersey, the defense of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Monmouth.
He also served at the Valley Forge, Pennsylvania encampment.
He was taken prisoner on August 19, 1779. Land Office Military warrant # 2194 was granted to him. His military certificate # is NO 2194. The original documents are located in Box 153, 31 (1 item). They are available on microfilm from the Virginia Land Office in Military certificates, Reels 1-38, and in the Library of Virginia Archives. They are numbered 1-9926 and cover the period July 14, 1782 - August 5, 1876.
The Land Office military certificates (RG #4 - Virginian Land Office, Register and Entry 86 in the Virginia Land Office Inventory are housed in the Library of Virginia.
