Husband of Margaret (McElvania) Alshouse. Son of Samuel and Mary C. (Sine) Alshouse. Brother of George Lincoln, Virden C., John A., Isabella, Harry A., Frank Elwood and Carrie Elizabeth Alshouse. Half brother to Alfred T., Ellen Amanda and Watson Abraham Alshouse. Father to Wayne Leon, Mildred Agnes and Lucille Gertrude Alshouse.
OBITUARY
Charles Alshouse was born at Heaton's Point, near Walnut, Illinois on June 26, 1872, and suddenly passed away at the family home adjacent to Walnut, October 12, 1925, after several weeks of illness, in his 54th year. It was well known, however, that a complication of physical ailments had been undermining his health for several years and that his condition was serious.
He was a son of Samuel and Mary Alshouse. He was married to Margaret McElvania at Walnut, Ill., on Feb. 6, 1901. He is survived by his widow, one son, Wayne, and two daughters, Mildred and Lucille and a little granddaughter, Alice Audrey, two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Pittman of Spring Valley, Ill., and Mrs. Carrie Kruse of Jesup, Iowa; and four brothers, Virden of Stanley, Iowa; John of Riverside, California; Frank of Forest Lake, Minnesota and George of Walnut, Ill.; also by two half-brothers, Alfred of Coffeyville, Kansas and Watson of Walnut, Ill. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Charles Alshouse was a member of the Walnut Lodge No. 722, A.F. and A.M. and held in high esteem by his brothern. He united with the Walnut, Ill. Methodist Episcopal Church of May 17, 1914, and immediately entered into its activities. He loved the church and in the ministry of song was a familiar member of the choir. He was a faithful attendant of the Brotherhood class and a Christian gentleman in whom there was no guile. He was a quiet man, unassuming, unselfish, gentle, kind and well beloved by all who knew him. As a husband and father, no man coould have been more considerate of his family. His influence in the home was a benediction and what he wrought there by his beautiful Christian living, can never be lost, for "no man liveth unto himself." Precious memories of him will always be cherished.
The funeral rites were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Walnut, on Wednesday afternoon, October 14th, with Dr. T. Athey Brewster in charge. The building was crowded to capacity. The sermon was full of sympathy and comfort and deeply affected all hearers. The choir accompanied by Miss Vera Stone, sang three beautifully appropriate hymns. Masonic services were held at the grave in the Walnut cemetery.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to the kind neighbors and friends who assisted in any way during the illness and death of our loved one.
