Faith --- Funeral services for John B. Backes, longtime resident of the Opal area who died suddenly at his home Thursday, have been set for Monday. Rev. William Moelter will officiate at the 9 a.m. rites at the Faith Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Opal Cemetery under direction of the F. O. Jolley Funeral Home of Sturgis.

Backes was born Oct. 20, 1865 at Almuten, Germany and came to the U. S. in 1894. He homesteaded near Opal in 1908. He was married July 1920 to the former Marie Kessler who preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Jos and Mathias, Opal; two brothers, Nicholas, Jeffers, Minn., and Nicholaus, in Canada; four sisters, Katie Osburn, Ferenna, Ill.; Lena Riley, Wanda, Minn.; Maggie Eicton, St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Mathias Moelter, Faith, and 19 grandchildren.
