Son of Rev. Robert Orville Wier Jr. and his second wife, Susan Elizabeth Wilson Wier; great-grandson of Robert Orville Wier Sr. and Laura Amanda Grant Wier; great-great-grandson of Samuel Wier and Jane Vance Lusk Wier; great-great-great-grandson of Thomas Wier Jr. and Mary Withrow Wier.


He married Laura Lydia Fountain (b. Nov 6, 1906 TX; d. Nov 22, 1999, San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX) and had three children: Robert Wilson Wier, Jr, Lydia Ann Wier, and Frederick Orville Wier. She was the daughter of James Olander Fountain and Sarah May "Sallie" Adams Fountain (ref., Descendants of Abram Adams; Texas History Hunters Blog).

Capt. Robert Wilson Wier (USA ret), employed for the past 13 years as a security guard as the U.S. Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, died Saturday night at the dispensary there. He was a native of Birmingham, Ala., where he was born Feb. 12, 1906. Capt. Wier was retired in 1954 after 23 years of Army service. Since that time he had made his home with his wife, Frances, at 1218 Shell Ave., Pacific Grove. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert W. Wier Jr. and Frederick Wier, both of Texas; two stepsons, Lt. Col. David M. Ward (USA) and Randol Ward of Santa Maria; three sisters, Mrs. Frances Chapman of Beaumont, Tex., Mrs. Gilbert Appler of Huntsville, Ala., and Mrs. Marvin Jones of El Paso, Tex.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at the Paul Mortuary and will be announced later.

Full military rites for Capt. Robert Wilson Wier (USA ret) will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Tex. The Porter Loring Mortuary, 323 S. McCullough Ave., San Antonio, is in charge of arrangements there, the Paul Mortuary locally. Capt. Wier died Saturday night at the Monterey Naval Auxiliary Landing Field dispensary. He had been a security guard at the facility since his retirement from active Army duty in 1954 after 23 years' service.
