He had been employed as a journeyman lineman for the Arizona Public Service Co. in Globe, Arizona, and with the Newburg Light Power and Telephone Co. in Newburg.
He was a member of the Unity Lodge of Odd Fellows and an associate member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Waterville.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Brillard) Ames of Unity; two sons, Claton Ames, Jr., of South China and Bacil Ames of Dixmont; one daughter, Suzanne Ames of Bar Harbor; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be in the Pond Cemetery.
