He Paid Debt Made on Battle Field
P. J. ALLISON RETURNS A CHEW OF TOBACCO HE BORROWED DURING THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG
On July 3, 1863, while bullets were flying fast and thick on the battlefield of Gettysburg, P. J. Allison borrowed a chew of tobacco from his comrade Abram Shillinberg, both members of the famous Muhlenburg riflemen.
On December 16, 1903, after an elapse of over 40 years, Mr. Shillinberg met his comrade, Mr. Allison, who is Commissioner of the Revenue for Madison district, in the clerk's office of Shenandoah county, and in the presence of two other members of the Muhlenburg Company, demanded a settlement of the long standing obligation. Mr. Allison presented his old comrade in arms with his "plug."
