Lois Frances Cason Butler, 91, of Waycross died Saturday morning at her daughter's residence in Valdosta following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, Leonard Peyton Butler, Sr.

She was born on February 2, 1917, in Waycross to the late Joseph B. and Fredda Harbin Cason. Mrs. Butler had made Waycross her home for most of her life. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also served as past president of WMU and Merrymakers and sang in the Seraph Choir. She was a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.

She graduated from Brewton Parker College and later from Valdosta State College. For more than thirty years, Mrs. Butler taught first grade in the Ware County School System and was later involved in the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by a son, Leonard P. Butler, Jr. (wife Esperanza) of Lawrenceville, GA; two daughters, Linda Lawrence (husband Aubrey) of Woodruff, SC, and Jane Singletary (husband Lewis) of Valdosta; and four siblings, Nelda Cason Drinkwater of Gaithersburg, MD; Montine Cason Drupiewski of Winter Park, FL; Richard Cason of Lutz, FL; and Carol Cason Farr of Waycross. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Cason Williams of Cottondale, FL and a brother, Joseph B. Cason, Jr. of Waycross.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church in Waycross, with burial following in Oakland Cemetery. The honorary pallbearers include her Sunday school class and the Merrymakers of Central Baptist.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Joseph and Fredda Cason Scholarship Fund at Waycross College or Grace Hospice of Valdosta.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
